My husband is gone this week...some sort of backpacking trip through national parks with a friend...so it'll be just me and my cat. Sort of excited to lounge around and have some alone time. I didn't even leave the house today after dropping him off at the airport.
Tomorrow I need to run errands. I need groceries and new shoes. Then I need to work on lesson planning and other school things.
Tuesday we have a staff meeting, Wednesday night is parent orientation (we have to talk to the parents about expectations - no kids), and Thursday I have to give DRA2 training after school.
All of this is after car rider duty...ICK! We have nearly 600 car riders at my school and it has been a disaster slowly getting under control. Every teacher has duty after school daily for the first two weeks of school and then after that we follow a rotation schedule. We have cut it down by like an hour but it is still taking an hour to get all the kids picked up.
We also have our first data team meeting of the year and team planning as well.
I need to figure out how to begin administering the DRA2 to my two classes. I have been working with them on teaching the Daily 5 stations, but all we have done is Read to Self because we've only had five days of school. I'm not sure what to have my kids do, other than rush introducing them to the other stations and hope they can manage themselves. I know that is counterproductive to the entire point of the Daily 5, but I don't really have much choice. I don't want to give them worksheets for an hour a day... Anyone else have this issue?
We will be working on nouns and verbs this week and begin our daily editing and prewriting. I found a couple of free things on nouns/verbs on TpT. Click on the images to download them.
We also begin our unit on fables/folktales. We start with fables and work on identifying/retelling the major events and morals. It's always a challenge because the kids have a hard time generalizing the lessons from the stories. But the good news is that it goes hand in hand with the teaching of rules and good citizenship.
Plus, all week I will be hoping and praying for my technology to be hooked up...hopefully in time for parent night.
Have a great week!
